بیشتر فهم ما از دنیای اجتماعی که در آن زندگی می کنیم و یا مسائلی که با آن مواجهیم بر اساس تئوری ها و دانشی است که عمدتاً توسط مردان خلق شده است. تسلط مردان در حوزه ی نظریه پردازی و تولید دانش باعث شده است که زنان از فرایندهای رسمی نظریه پردازی کنار گذاشته شوند و زمانی که این نظریه ها در منصه ی عمل به کار گرفته می شوند، مشارکت زنان و موضوعات مهم مربوط به آنها در بسیاری از حوزه ها نادیده گرفته می شود. این مقاله ضمن تأکید بر ضرورت نظریه پردازی در مسائل زنان فهم ما را از تئوری های فمینیستی و موضوعات جنسیتی درهم می آمیزد و آن را نقد و بررسی می کند.
